Tina is a passionate advocate for a just and sustainable food system that is led by the communities that it feeds. She hails from the Ryukyu Islands (or Okinawa) of southern Japan where her love of food began. The island cooking that she shared with her maternal family gave her a strong and tangible link to her roots. She is now based in Seattle, WA where she has been working in the arena of food justice. With Real Food Challenge, she supports student researchers with the Real Food Calculator and helps schools who signed a Real Food Campus Commitment to stay on track of their goals, including the California State University system. She is inspired by community storytelling and the quiet power of compassion. Outside of work, Tina loves to be outside in the sun, go dancing, read fantasy novels, and take care of her plants.
